About Jonathan

Jonathan Rich's practice encompasses all aspects of divorce, dissolution of marriage, legal separation, child custody, and child support matters for unmarried parents. Jonathan has extensive experience litigating and negotiating difficult matters in these areas of the law. He has represented clients for over 30 years successfully handling issues such as property division, spousal support, child support, and parental rights and responsibilities. Jonathan has expertise in both litigation and alternative dispute processes involving valuation of closely held businesses and real estate. He has extensive experience cross examining business valuation and other experts in court. In addition, Jonathan has participated in several trials that resulted in court of appeals cases dealing with business valuation issues. Jonathan has also represented clients in many out of court processes that have resulted in amicable resolutions to the termination of marriages. Jonathan has experience in drafting shareholder agreements in order to keep parties in common ownership of marital businesses or to effectuate the termination of one party's ownership interest.

Jonathan has represented clients in state and federal courts regarding international child custody matters implicating the 1980 Hague Convention on Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Enforcement Act (UCCJEA). One of Jonathan's cases involving the UCCJEA was decided by the Ohio Supreme Court and serves as the leading authority for determining the subject matter jurisdiction of the courts handling child custody matters.

Jonathan's other trials and court of appeals cases have also focused on financial misconduct, spousal support and child support for high income persons, child custody, separate verses marital property division issues, business valuation, prenuptial agreements, and division of retirement benefits. Jonathan has handled cases in many counties in the State of Ohio, several courts of appeals, the Supreme Court of Ohio, several federal district courts, as well as a few cases in other states.

Jonathan's practice also includes the drafting of pre-nuptial agreements. Jonathan has the skills to successfully complete difficult and sensitive negotiations between engaged parties. He has represented clients desiring to protect their business interests, interests in family businesses, and wealth accumulated over a lifetime, as well as individuals marrying spouses or into families that wish to be protected by a pre-nuptial agreement. In addition, Jonathan has represented clients regarding pre-nuptial agreements that live in Ohio as well as other states. Jonathan also has experience drafting partnership agreements for unmarried individuals that desire to cohabitate and purchase real estate together.

Jonathan joined Zashin & Rich in 1993. Prior to becoming an attorney, Jonathan managed residential and industrial real estate. At Zashin & Rich, Jonathan's practice includes representing clients with regard to real estate issues including drafting contracts for the lease, acquisition, sale of real estate, and real estate tax appeals. He has represented clients in adversarial proceedings such as partition, quiet title, foreclosure, and forcible entry and detainer actions. As part of his business practice, Jonathan represents clients with regard to corporate formation, general civil litigation, and acquisitions of closely held businesses.
